원소명 셀레늄

Sulfar와 같은 족 원소. 원소번호 34번으로, 생명에 필수 미량원소가운데 한가지. 황과 많은 유사한 성질을 갖는다.

본 원소를 갖는 단백질이 SelenoProtein.

최근, 항산화작용등에 필수적인 미량원소로 각광받으면서, 각종 영양제성분으로 쓰이고 있다. selenite등의 무기형태의 공급은 유해하므로, SelenoCystein, SelenoMethionine등의 유기형태로 공급한다. 일반적으로 selenium enriched growth된 yeast extract 를 사용한다.
