Rudolf Emil Kalman (May 19, 1930 ~ )
1930년 헝가리태생으로 MIT와 Columbi 대학을 거치면서 1957년에 박사학위를 받는다. ControlSystem과 SignalSystem에 대해서 StateVariableRepresentation에 기초한 그의 연구는 공학시스템 해석에 있어서 획기적인 수학적 접근법을 제시한 것이였다. 특히 KalmanFilter로 알려진 최적 추정법은 수많은 공학논문에 인용되었다.
Kalman은 동문이면서도 퍼지집합(FuzzySet)으로 유명한 LoftiZadeh를 다음과 같이 비판한다.
